Joining a Town Board or Committee

Swearing In of Town Officials
Whether appointed or elected, a person new to a committee, board, commission, or to a position in the Shutesbury government is sworn in as a Town Official by the Town Clerk.

The Town Official being sworn in will be asked to sign:
1)  Certificate of Receipt of Open Meeting Law Materials, per M.G.L. c. 30A, §20(h).
2)  A copy of the Code of Conduct in acknowledgment of understanding what is expected in service as a Town Official.

In 2023, the State Ethics Commission released a Summary of the Conflict of Interest Law and an online Conflict of Interest Law Training Program.  All employees and volunteers must complete the online training program within 30 days of beginning public service and every two years thereafter.  Follow the instructions to create your account.  Please be careful when selecting a "public body" from the drop-down menu to click on SHUTESBURY, not Shrewsbury.

Regarding email for Town committee and board members
Elected and appointed officials should use a designated email for Town business.  Because we are not currently able to provide an official "shutesbury.org" email address to everyone, we recommend setting up your own email account.  This email account should be distinct from your personal or other work emails and should be used only for Town business.  This will help you stay organized, as well as comply with Open Meeting Law and Public Records Requests.

The following is the format suggested.

shutesbury.firstname.lastname@gmail.com
example:  shutesbury.john.doe@gmail.com

To have committee emails automatically forwarded to this address, please see instructions.
