Regiater to vote!
In order to vote in national, state, and local elections — and to vote at Town Meeting — you must be registered to vote in Shutesbury at least 10 days prior to Election Day. There are several ways to register to vote in Massachusetts:
-
-
Register at a Registry of Motor Vehicles (RNV) office when you renew or apply for your MA driver’s license. The closest RMV offices are in Greenfield, MA and Easthampton, MA.
-
Complete the MA Voter Registration Application form, print out and sign the form, then mail the form or take it to the Town Clerk’s Office to register in person.
You can go to the MA Secretary of State’s website to check your voter registration status (and more) at any time. Helpful hint: If you can't locate your registration, and your mail address has a zip code other than 01072 (01002 or 01059, for example), try using 01072 instead. This is one of the few places where the difference between residential and mailing address actually matters.
Early Vote by Mail
Early Vote by Mail is available for national, state, and local elections, but is not available for voting at Town Meeting, which requires your attendance and voting in person. If you want to vote by mail, fill out the Vote by Mail Application, sign the application, and submit the application to the Town Clerk’s Office:
-
Place it in the Town Clerk’s mailbox in the hallway at Town Hall
-
Place it in the Drop Box outside Town Hall
-
Mail it to PO Box 264, Shutesbury, MA 01072
-
Scan the signed application and email the pdf to [email protected].
Absentee Voting by Mail
You qualify for absentee voting if you are on active military duty, are a U.S. citizen living outside the U.S., are currently incarcerated for a reason other than a felony conviction, or are requesting an emergency absentee ballot because of being admitted to a healthcare facility within 1 week of the election. If you qualify for an Absentee Ballot, fill out the Absentee Ballot Application, sign the application, and submit the application to the Town Clerk’s Office.
Voting for Students
Out-of-state students can decide where to register to vote: either in their home state or where they attend school (but not both).
Students who consider their Massachusetts school as their residence for voting purposes can complete the mail-in MA Voter Registration Application form, print out and sign the form, then mail or take the signed form to the Town Clerk’s Office to register in person.
Students who are registered in another state can request an absentee ballot from their home state.
